Grooming

At Debucher Clipperdown, we hand strip all our GBGVs and Dachshunds; we never clipper as this ruins the coat and is nearly impossible to reverse. We recommend using a slicker brush once a week to keep your dog used to being groomed, and to prevent matting. Special attention must be focused on the armpits, groin area, between the toes and around the ears and chin. Nails must be clipped when needed, and it is important to remember the dewclaws on the front feet as these will begin to curl inwards and cause pain if left to grow too long. Depending on the coat, handstripping should be done a few times a year; very good coats will need handstripping less frequently.

Here is an example of the difference a good hand strip can make.
